Augusta, Ga - Paul Kent Plunkett, Jr., 63, went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2017. The oldest child of the late Paul and Jeanne Plunkett, Kent is survived by his son, Paul Kent Plunkett, III of Atlanta, Georgia, his sister Saundra Jeanne Plunkett of Augusta, his brother, James T. Plunkett (Mary Anne) of Augusta, nieces Mary Rob Plunkett, Frances Plunkett and Anna Plunkett, many cousins and a host of friends.
Kent was a graduate of Westside High School and the University of Georgia where he earned a degree in accounting. Kent began his career with George C. Baird and Company and worked with a number of manufacturing and construction related companies, most recently Complete Residential.
As a graduate of UGA, he was an avid Bulldog fan enjoying Saturdays in Athens at the Varsity and then cheering on the Dawgs in Sanford Stadium. In addition to football, Kent enjoyed shooting skeet and trap at Pinetucky and the occasional bird shoot. However, he was probably most happy at the lake where he enjoyed boating, skiing on almost any type of ski, and striper fishing. During the summer he enjoyed going to “boat church”, the lake ministry of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Kent was probably most known for his association with the Boy Scouts. Hardly anyone who met Kent didn’t learn of his passion for the organization. A life-long Scouter, Kent tremendously enjoyed passing on the skills and experiences that he acquired from Scouting to his son, Paul. An Eagle Scout, Kent was also a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Committed to making scouting as good of an experience as possible for others, Kent attended one world and two national jamborees as a youth and later volunteered for two national and two world jamborees.
Deeply loyal to his son, his family and his friends, he was always willing to give of his time and talents to help anyone that he could. It is hoped that he will always be remembered as a true friend and special father who had a perpetual smile on his face.
A graveside service will be held Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., West View Cemetery, 2051 Division Street, Augusta, Georgia. A visitation will immediately follow the service at the home of Jim and Mary Anne Plunkett. Pallbearers will be Cliff Miller, John Ealick, William Ealick, Burt Hall, Michael Guobaitis, David Jackson, Jimmy Granade and Kane Bonnette.
If desired, donations can be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church to support its lake ministry “Chapel Under the Pines.”
