Augusta, GA – Paul V. Davis, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Paul was born April 6, 1932, to Paul V. Davis Sr. and Mabel Motes Davis in Appling, Georgia. He graduated from Wake Forest University where he played basketball, baseball and football. He obtained his Master’s degree at Eastern Carolina University.
Paul served in the army and then spent several years coaching high school basketball, football, baseball and track in North Carolina before accepting the job of principal at South Columbia Elementary school in Martinez, Georgia.
In 1972, Paul began a long career in real estate and land development when he opened Southern Realty in Evans. He loved to spend time with his family and many friends. He enjoyed spending time outdoors – fishing and mowing, daily breakfast with his friends, watching any sporting event and just riding around in Columbia County.
Paul is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Julie (Chuck) Harris of Rochester, IL; daughter Jackie (Michael) Saber of Raleigh, NC; son Paul (Estela) Davis, III of Flagstaff, AZ; grandchildren, Trey Harris, Zeke Saber, Hallie Saber, Ethan Saber, Benjamin Davis and Alan Davis.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. Burial will follow in Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Gropp, James Kile, Oliver Owens, Ray Lowry, Roy Mutimer, Edward Basey, Kenny Covington, and Jimmy Cushman. Honorary pallbearers will be Neal Green and Heziekiah Green.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice or to Walnut Grove Church, 3066 Ray Owens Road, Appling, GA 30802.
