Martinez, GA – Pedro “Pete” R. Garcia, age 75, loving father passed away in the early morning of Tuesday, January 25th fighting pulmonary fibrosis surrounded by his children. Pete was born in Indianapolis, IN on March 1, 1946, and was raised in Donna, TX where he graduated from the local high school. He joined the U.S. Army in 1967 serving three years as a cook. After he left the Army, he attended and graduated from trade school. He worked as a migrant for short time before joining General Motors Foundry in Defiance, OH where he worked and retired after thirty years. Aside from working at G.M. he focused on serving the community serving in the Jaycee’s, Knights of Columbus, and by being one of the founders of the Defiance Hispanic Cultural Club. Although he was proud of his community accomplishments, his greatest love was being a grandfather to his grandchildren and loved retirement.
Family members include his wife Thelma Ruiz Garcia; children: Amanda T. Garcia, Erika J. Garcia, Diana M. Garcia, and Steven A. Garcia; grandchildren: Christopher Dlubac, Alexis Smith and Marrissa Garcia-Lawson. He was preceded in death by his parents Felix and Maria Garcia and brother Manuel Sangines.
A graveside service will be held Friday, January 28, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Deacon Ken Maleck officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the cemetery.
