Peggy Peavy Herman

Augusta, GA – Peggy Peavy Herman passed away peacefully on January 15, 2023. She was the wife of William Andrew Herman III.

Peggy was born on the kitchen table in Barnesville, GA on July 6, 1941. She was the daughter of Edward Hamilton Peavy and Estelle Stocks Peavy. Her dad soon left for Europe and World War II. He returned to open a furniture business in Barnesville. Peggy lived her childhood and teen years in the idyllic life of a small town in central Georgia. Some of her early cherished memories were of eating scuppernongs, playing hopscotch, churning ice cream, picnicking at the family pond, spending time with cousins and friends, being a cheerleader, and singing in the choir at her beloved First Baptist Church. She would much rather talk about these things than about her high school beauty queen days or academic awards. She went on to graduate from the University of Georgia where she joined and served as president of Tri-Delta sorority.

After graduation she moved to Atlanta where she taught fifth grade and met her husband of 57 years. She and Billy married in 1965 at Christ the King Cathedral in Atlanta. In 1966 they moved to Augusta where their three children were born.

Peggy was a member of the Hillside Garden Club, the Augusta Country Club, St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, Irish American Heritage Society, and several bridge clubs. She enjoyed birthday groups and being with neighbors at the Woodgate Gourmet Club. She loved tennis and going to lunch, the mountains and the beach with friends. Peggy had many friends, and she cherished those relationships over the years. And she loved the Georgia Bulldogs and golf on TV, especially the Masters! But spending time with her children and grandchildren was the joy of her life! She would smile with pride when reminded that all of her grandchildren were in Athens at UGA!

In addition to her husband, family members include her children William Scott Herman (Kristi), William Andrew Herman IV (Lonii), and Caroline Herman Guinn (Scott), her brother John Peavy (Martha Ann), and her five grandchildren: Liam, Camille, Hannah, Drew, and Ella. She had numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. She loved them all!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Via Cognitive Health (formerly Jud C. Hickey Center), 1901 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904 or St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, 1420 Monte Sano, Augusta, GA 30904.
