Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, March 27, 2013, Mr. Peter Murray Menk, 86, loving husband to the late Rosemary Brittingham Menk.
Mr. Menk was a native of Montclair, NJ but has lived in Augusta since 1952. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Fordham University where he was President of the Senior Class and a member of the Student Council. Mr. Menk was the retired owner and President of The Menk Company.
He was a former President of The Augusta Builders Exchange, The Augusta Plumbing & Heating Contractors, and The Georgia Plumbing Contractors Association. He was a former director of Georgia Railroad & Banking Company, The Georgia Railroad Bank and First Union of Augusta. He was a board member of St. Joseph Center for Life, and a board member and chairman of St. Joseph Hospital and St. Joseph Ventures. He was a member and chairman of The Aquinas High School Board. Mr. Menk was also a member of The Augusta Country Club, The West Lake Country Club, and The Augusta National. He was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church and Grace Fellowship.
Family members include children: Mary Louise Menk Rucker, Catherine Regina Mosely (Curtis Glenn), Paul Thomas Menk (Tandy), Rosemary Menk Mosely (Andy) all of Augusta, Andrew Joseph Menk of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter-in-law: Marjorie Lynn Menk; grandchildren: Peter Murray Menk, III, Brent Thomas Folsom, Jacqueline Tandy Menk, Catherine Rose Folsom, James Patrick Mosely, Paul Thomas Menk, Jr., Mary Louise Menk all of Augusta, Andrew John Menk, Charles Joseph Menk both of Norfolk, VA. He is preceded in death by his son: Peter Murray Menk, Jr.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, April 1, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Gerald Ragan celebrant. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Peter Murray Menk, III, Brent Thomas Folsom, Paul Thomas Menk, Jr., James Patrick Mosely, Andrew John Menk, and Charles Joseph Menk.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ones charity of choice.
