Philip Sanken Ward, Sr.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Entered into rest Monday, July 27, 2009, at Doctors Hospital, Mr. Philip S. Ward, 60, husband of 34 years to Sue Tucker Ward.
Mr. Ward was a native and life long resident of Augusta. He was a graduate of Aquinas High School and a veteran of the US Army during Vietnam, was a Specialist Five and awarded the Bronze Star Medal in November 1971. He was employed as a Mortgage Loan Officer. Mr. Ward was the 1987 President of the Irish American Heritage Society and the 2003 Grand Marshall of the St. Patrick Day Parade in Augusta, was an advocate for Aquinas High School and Georgia Southern University Football Teams, member and past Grand Knight of the Patrick Walsh Council #677, a member of St. Mary on-the-Hill Catholic Church. He also participated in the Mickey Gallagher Golf Tournament, the Paul Anderson Youth Home, St. Mary’s Home in Savannah and the Boys Club of America.
Family members in addition to his wife include: son: Philip Sancken Ward, Jr., with the Peace Corp. stationed in Cambodia, daughters: Catherine Ward Stewart, husband Daniel and Sarah Elizabeth Ward both of Augusta, mother: Mary Sancken Ward, sister: Elizabeth Ward Camp of Huntsville, AL, brothers: Laurence Joseph Ward and wife Gail of Augusta, Frank Eugene Ward of Augusta, brother in law: Don Ratzlaff of Danville, KY. Mr. Ward was predeceased by his father Laurence Joseph (Pat) Ward, Sr. and his sister Patricia Ward Ratzlaff.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 31, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary on-the-Hill Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Lubinsky officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Honorary Escorts will be members of the Irish American Heritage Society and members of Knights of Columbus, Patrick Walsh Council #677.
