Phyllis Ann Bronson
North Augusta, SC- Phyllis Ann Bronson, 87, entered into rest on June 3, 2013 at her home in North Augusta, SC. She was born in 1925 in Ferguson Township, Clearfield County, PA, to Roland and Anna Shoff Barrett.
She spent her youth in Clearfield County, PA, attended Marron School near Kermoor, PA, and graduated Clearfield High School. Then, as a Navy wife, she made a series of moves, settling in Mt. Holly, NJ. She graduated from Burlington County Community College and attended other NJ schools to complete her education. She was an LPN and later a career social worker with the state of New Jersey. In 1987 she moved to North Augusta, SC, along with other family members, and made the area her home.
Mrs. Bronson loved her family and spent her life caring for children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She saw to sports, music lessons, scouts, and many other activities that shaped her family’s lives. She handled college books, graduation trips, camps, rewarded good grades, and attended events, far and near, that honored her young ones. She was a faithful member of Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Augusta, GA, and for decades contributed to several charitable groups.
Phyllis Ann Barrett married Frederick C. Bronson in 1946 in Bedford, PA. Her husband, an active-duty Senior Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy, preceded her in death in 1960. She never remarried. Also preceding her in death were grandparents Judd and Sara Summers Barrett and Ruby and Harry Shoff of the Kermoor, PA area, her parents, parents-in-law Theresa Sughrue Bronson and Frederick Clair Bronson, and dear in-laws Margaret and Ray Potts, Elizabeth and Louis Zarecky, and John Bronson of Clearfield, PA, as well as a great granddaughter Lucy Jean Marie Baker, of Aiken, SC, who passed away only last month.
She is survived by her children Frederick C. Bronson of Nicaragua, Richard M. Bronson of Augusta, GA, Jeanmarie Bronson and son-in-law David Garber of Aiken, SC, a sister LouAnn and Sherman G. Kitchen of Mahaffey, PA, and Harry (Bucky) and Doris Barrett of Chambersburg, PA, a beloved aunt Mrs. Seth (Dorothy) Read and cousins Dr. Fred and Susan Read of Kermoor, PA. Also surviving are loving in-laws James and Doris Bronson, Holyoke, MA, Mary Claire Bronson of Annapolis, MD and George (Bernard) Bronson of Lakeland, FL. Grandson Benjamin Bronson George and Danica Neyer, Harrisonburg, VA, granddaughters Elizabeth Bronson George of Aiken, SC, Laura and David Rychly of Augusta, GA, Amy and Matt Sawicz of North Augusta, SC, and Sara Bronson of Evans, GA. Other family members still in the Clearfield, PA area include Mrs. Francis Sughrue and John and Patte Sughrue.
She will be laid to rest with her husband at Beverly National Cemetery in Willingboro, NJ. Memorials can be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
