Preston D. Harpe

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, June 24, 2023, Preston Dan Harpe, 90, loving husband of 29 years to Dorothy Dowdy Harpe.

Preston was a member of Abilene Baptist Church and of the Dr. Les Walters’ and Dr. David Hawkins’ Sunday School Class. He was a native of Thomaston, GA, proudly served in the United States Army and retired after 38 years with a career in civil service. He later joined the Richmond County Board Health Department as Director of Medical Reserve Corps. He enjoyed traveling and Preston was a loving and devoted husband, father, and papa.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his children: Karen Harpe Howie and husband Jim, Preston Keith Harpe and wife Maryann, Kenneth Dan Harpe and wife Jill, and Serena Dowdy; and grandchildren: Savannah Howie, Jamie Howie, Preston Harpe, Anna Harpe, Michael Coffman, Wesley Elijah, Brandon Farris, and Noah Becker. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Della Harpe, and sisters, Mary Frances Ewing, Phoebe Hooks, twin sister Pat Addis, and Annie Joe Echols.

The memorial service will be Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. John Bryan officiating.
