Ralph Jonah Simons
Augusta, GA – Ralph Jonah Simons passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013, 86, husband of June Clark Simons.
Mr. Simons, a native of Thomson, GA, attended Thomson High School. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a Business degree in 1949. He served in the United States Navy at the end of World War II. Mr. Simons worked for Knox Limited his entire career from college until retirement. He was the longtime voice of Thomson High School football, as well as a lifelong member of the Downtown Augusta Rotary Club. Mr. Simons’ business judgment was well-respected and widely known by those associated with him, who fondly nicknamed him “The Judge.” He was honored to have been an officer in his association with Knox Limited throughout his business career. He enjoyed the summers between his college days as a lifeguard on Daytona Beach, FL and later so, with his family vacationing.
In addition to his loving wife, family members include daughter: Jeanna Simons Chapman (Robert Randolph III); son: Ralph “Jay” Jonah Simons, Jr. (Amy Daniel); 2 grandchildren: Ralph “Jake” Jonah Simons III and Lucy Carswell Simons; and sister: Martha Simons Sullivan. He is preceded in death by his parents: Ralph Langston Simons and Camille Lazenby Simons.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Story Chapel of First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 106 SRP Drive Suite A, Evans, GA 30809 or to the GA War Veterans Nursing Home, 1101 15th Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
