Ramona Carter Lunn

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, July 20, 2017, Ramona Janet (Tackett) Carter Lunn, 85, loving wife of Joseph Scott Lunn, M.D.

Ramona Lunn, our “Muzzy”, was beloved by all who knew her. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, she served as an American Red Cross case worker in the 1960s. Ramona taught English as a Second Language to the Thai Border Police living in Ubon, Thailand in the 1970s. During the 1980s, she responded to national disasters while employed with the Federal Emergency Management Agency before retiring from Cumberland County Social Services in Fayetteville, NC.

She was on the forefront of the well-educated homemaker, designing and executing projects in all of her homes. Ramona was the consummate hostess, ensuring her guests felt welcomed and comfortable. Tailoring was one of her greatest passions and she could create almost anything with a needle and thread, having sewn wedding, formal, and prom dresses for herself and all of her girls. In addition, she would honor any baby born in the family with handmade stuffed animals and quilts. Ramona, Mom or Muzzy made all of us feel beautiful with her ability to alter any pattern to complement a specific figure.

A native of Milton, West Virginia, Ramona was a devoted military wife. Having lived previously in Germany, Thailand, and on several Army bases, she resided in Fayetteville, NC for many years alongside her first husband, Major Tennis H. “Sam” Carter until his death in 1992.

Following her marriage to Dr. Joseph Lunn in 1993, she relocated from Fayetteville, NC to Augusta, GA, where she crocheted caps for premature infants and volunteered in the gift shop at the Augusta University School of Medicine. They shared a 25-year love affair between homes in Augusta, Georgia and Cottonwood, Arizona. Their home in Augusta is the family gathering place and the site of much love and laughter. Our “Muzzy” leaves an enduring legacy of love and family.

She was preceded in death by her first husband: Major Tennis Hunter Carter, US Army (Ret); parents: Jess W. Tackett and Thelma Hale Tackett Perry; and brothers: Hubert Paul Tackett and Charles Lee Tackett.

Survivors in addition to her husband, include daughters: Robin Carter of Myrtle Beach, SC, Paula McKeag of Augusta, GA, Tracy Carter Sondeen of Boulder, CO; Step-Daughter: Susan Elizabeth Lunn (Kurt Schoenburg) of Roswell, GA; Step Sons: Gregory Scott Lunn (Rebecca) of Clarkdale, AZ, Daniel Joseph Lunn of Tucson, AZ; Grandchildren: Paul Hunter Wood (Sheila) of Marion, VA, Amanda Christianson (Chris) of Fayetteville, NC, Alesha Smith (Stacey) of Fayetteville, NC, Samantha Ness (Glen) of Mill Creek, WA, Brooke Musick (Warren) of Statesville, NC, Hunter Sondeen of Boulder, CO; Step Grandchildren: Scott Lunn of Phoenix, AZ,Nicholas Lunn of Washington, DC, Jack Lunn of Tucson, AZ; Great Grandchildren:Christopher Wade, Grace Christianson, Madeline Ness, Sophia Ness, Duncan Ness, Theodore Ness, Jena Peaks, Chase Christianson, Kevin Christianson, Amber Dancy, Angel Van Hoozier.
