Ray C. Denton Jr.
Appling, GA - Ray C. Denton Jr. entered into rest on the evening of September 8, 2020. He died suddenly and unexpectedly from a massive heart attack. He was 55 years old.
Ray was born in Augusta, but he grew up in rural Hancock County. He often talked fondly of his youth spent hunting, fishing, and roaming the woods with his cousins.
Ray worked for Ashmore Concrete for the last 25 years. He was an excellent salesperson and a tireless worker who helped Ashmore Concrete - Pumping become the success it is today. In 1999, starting with only his salesmanship and two small pumps, he helped Ashmore build a multistate pumping operation.
Ray enjoyed cooking and grilling on his RECTEC grill. He loved nothing better than hanging out in his “shop” with friends and family; laughing, telling stories, and sharing his drink of the month, AKA “Ray’s Specials.” Ray loved to be outdoors. He was always eager to help move deer stands, plow the hunting fields, or check the feeding cameras at his hunting club.
Ray’s generosity of spirit was evident to everyone who knew him. His love and devotion to his family brought stability and happiness to their lives.
Family members include his wife: Shannon Denton; daughters: Brittney and Helen Denton; mother: Julia Denton; sister: Linda Stewart (Larry); brother in law: Wes Byne (Kim); nieces: Sophia, Amelia, and Marina Byne; nephews: Chad Stewart (Holly) and Dakota Stewart (Kasyddie). He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva ‘Diana’ Denton and his father-in-law, John Hallahan Byne.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, September 11, 2020 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484. Please sign the guestbook at
