Raymond Lundquist

Augusta, GA-Raymond Lundquist of Augusta, GA, a veteran of World War II, passed away on November 11, 2014, Veterans Day, at the age of 92 at University Hospital in Augusta.
Ray was born September 22, 1922 in Utica, NY. The son of the late Henry Paul and Rose Marcil Lundquist, Ray grew up in Richfield Springs, NY and graduated from Richfield Springs High School. After high school, Ray enlisted in the US Army Air Corps was a navigator for B24 bombers in the 98th Bomb Group in the European theatre and attained the rank of first lieutenant. After World War II Ray returned to New York State and enrolled in Clarkson College, graduating in 1952 with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Ray worked for Allied Chemical in Buffalo, NY until he was transferred to a new plant in Hopewell, VA. In Hopewell, he met Marian Stone Lundquist and they were married in 1961 and spent 53 memorable years together. They relocated to Augusta, GA shortly after when Ray took a position with Columbia Nitrogen. Ray completed his work career with Kimberly Clark, helping with construction and engineering of several plant additions, retiring in 1988.
In his early years Ray was an avid tennis player but when he moved to Virginia he discovered golf and that became his passion. Ray was often kidded for continuing to move south so that he could play more golf and Augusta was the perfect destination. Ray was a member of Midland Valley Country Club for 50 years. He enjoyed dancing at the American Legion Post 63 where he was a lifetime member. He served as treasurer of the Augusta Barbershop Chorus and treasurer for the American Society of Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church for 50 years and served as a head usher. Ray was a true testament to his Christian faith and showed this by how he lived his life and treated others.
Ray was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; thoroughly enjoying time spent with his grandchildren.
We guess that the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost needed a fourth. Hit em straight Ray.

Ray is survived by his wife, Marian; two children, Dana Lundquist of Shelby NC (Nancy) and Lisa L. Whatley of Augusta (Charles); brother Alfred “Lovey” Lundquist of Mohawk NY; brother-in-law, Hodges Stone of Richmond, VA (Rene'); five grandchildren; Charles Whatley Jr, Corinne Whatley, Mason Whatley, Jackson Lundquist and Bretta Rose Lundquist, and several nieces and nephews. Ray is preceded in death by his brothers, Norman and Henry Lundquist and his sister, Marion Kearns.

A Funeral Mass will be Friday, November 14, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at St Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Gerald Ragan and Fr. Mark VanAlstine celebrants. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
