Rebecca “Becky” Brown Skelton of Wilmington, NC and previously of Augusta, GA, passed away suddenly on October 31, 2021. She was born to the late Hadley DeLorme and Frances Day Brown in Augusta, GA on March 7th, 1942. Rebecca was a graduate of St. Joseph’s College of Nursing in Savannah, GA where she received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing. She married the love of her life, Raymond Skelton, on November 7th, 1966. She began her career in the Atlanta, GA metro area before moving with her husband, Raymond, and their 2 children, Susan and Raymond, Jr. to Wilmington, NC in 1979 to support Raymond and his Chick Fil A franchise.
Rebecca is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond Skelton, children, Susan Skelton Gough of Charleston, SC, and Raymond Skelton, Jr. and his wife, Celine, of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren Jackson Riley Gough of
Charleston, SC and Connor Skelton of Sacramento, CA; a brother, William “Bill” Brown and his wife, Shelia, of Athens, GA and a sister, Kathryn Ann Zwickel of Augusta, GA.
Rebecca enjoyed traveling the world, especially with her daughter, Susan. All who know and loved Becky over the years, personally or professionally, know she’ll always be remembered by her beautiful smile, her willingness to help others and her vivacious free spirit. As well as her love of fashionable clothes, the NY Symphony, the Arts, classical music and her enjoyment of reading The New York Times cover to cover every Sunday.
One of her greatest passions was her fascination with England and following The Royal family. She could tell you anything you wanted to know through the decades! We know, without a doubt, she was greeted in heaven by all of our beloved fur babies throughout the years, Buffy, Holly, Shelby, Prissy and Sadie. She is rejoicing in the Lord’s beautiful light and kingdom right now, reuniting with her loved ones whom she so deeply loved. Your beautiful spirit will be terribly missed by those left behind on this earth, but we will see you again our loving mama, wife and friend.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021, in Wilmington, NC and a service will be held on November 6, 2021, at 2pm, at The Church of Good Shepard in Augusta, GA, where she and Raymond were married and her two children were christened. Interment to follow at Westover Cemetery.
