Richard J. "Rick" Mills
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, Richard Jackson “Rick” Mills, 75, loving husband of over 40 years to Margaret Hall Mills.
Rick was a native of Augusta, GA, having graduated from Butler High School in 1965 and completing his undergraduate degree with a B.S. in Math from Augusta College, followed by his MBA from Savannah State University in Savannah, GA. His entire career was spent in the paper industry, retiring after 47 years on the financial side of Management. He was especially proud of the fact that he never took a “sick day” in all those 47 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Baxter Gordon Mills and Helen Byrd Mills, as well as his brother, John Gordon Mills. Surviving him, in addition to his wife Margaret, are his children: Kimberly Mills Womack (Jay) and Michael McKneely (Haley); grandchildren: Emma Lee Womack Pulley (Jimmy), Jack Womack (Laurel), Zoey Hinkle, and Sofie Hinkle; brother: James Eric Mills; and his furry companions: Rosie, Sam, and Oreo Speedwagon.
Rick accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and served the Lord his whole life, primarily as an exciting and delighting Sunday school teacher, mentor, and encourager, but his greatest asset was his prayer life. He was a powerful and committed prayer warrior and believed that prayer was the greatest asset a Christian possesses. All he has known can attest to benefitting from his petitions to and praise for God.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Victory Baptist Church, 620 W Martintown Road, North Augusta, SC with his pastor and friend, Rev. CT Townsend, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Victory Baptist Church, for Chris and Christa Dickert, and their son, Cooper, who has been in the NICU for the 9 months since birth. Both parents are faithful servants of the Lord and He is using them to minister to others in similar extreme circumstances and encourage others who know the story of little Cooper.
