Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Doctors Hospital, Mr. Richard L. Muns, Sr., 73, beloved husband of Ruth A. Muns.
Mr. Muns was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. He served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Muns was a current member of Abilene Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge 1, Scottish Rite Temple, CEC/Seabee Historical Foundation, Martinez-Evans Optimist Club where he served as President 2007-2008, Columbia County Republican Party, Georgia Republican Party, American Legion Post 192 of Evans, National Rifle Association, and the U.S. Navy Mobile Construction Battalion 2 Reunion Association (Seabees). He was a former member of Augusta First Baptist Church (Past Chairman Radio, Television & PA Committee and Baptist Training Union Teacher), St. John United Methodist Church of Augusta (Board of Trustees and Sunday School Teacher), Optimist Club of Augusta (Past President 1973-1974), American Business Club of Augusta (Board of Directors), Georgia Association of School Business Officials, Georgia Association of School Facility Administrators (First President-1990), Georgia Association of Public School Adult Education (Past President), The Peace Officer Association of Georgia, Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, Georgia Association of Educators, Georgia Association of Public School Security Directors (Past President), the National Association of Adult Educators, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Merit Board (Former Chairman), Richmond County Civil Defense (Past Director), and Richmond County Board of Education Police (First Chief of Department and retired as Chief of Department).
Family members in addition to his wife include daughter: Cindy M. Henry (Corky) of Tyler, TX; sons: Lee Muns of Martinez, Bud Muns of Evans; eight grandchildren: Heather Muns Samp, Amber Muns Herlocker, Christia Henry, Chad Muns, David Henry, Tiffany Henry, Jamie Muns, Andrew Muns; two great-grandchildren: Caleb Herlocker and Tyler Henry, and sister-in-law Peg Aldred Sunday of Rehobeth, DE. He was predeceased by his brother Lawrence E. Muns.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Abilene Baptist Church with Rev. William F. Harrell officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chad Muns, David Henry, Chip Ivey, Jamie Muns, Buddy Ivey, Lawrence “Bo” Muns, Jr., Harland Burdeshaw, and Brad Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be the member of Sayers & Easler Sunday School Classes, Augusta Ambucs, Richmond County Board of Education Police, and Col. Scott Johnson.
