Dr. Richard E. Mann

Modoc, SC – Richard Eugene Mann was born December 25, 1931, to George and Louise Mann in Muncie, IN. On May 12, Dick passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side in Modoc, SC.

In Muncie, he graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1950, Ball State University in 1953, and married his college sweetheart, Barbara Irwin in 1954.

Dick graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1959 and after a year of rotating internship, returned to IU Medical Center for his residency in psychiatry. Following his residency, he served active duty in the USNR-MC 1961-1963 at USMC Recruiting, Paris Island, SC and then served in the USNR through 1969.

Upon completion of active duty, they returned to their Indiana roots, settling in Fort Wayne and Dr. Mann began his private practice. In 1985 he became Medical Director of Behavior Services at Parkview Memorial Hospital while maintaining his private practice. In 1991, he transitioned to full time before “retiring” in 1996 to Marco Island, FL.

Of course, “retirement” led to contract positions in AZ, WA, TN, ME, GA, and Australia / New Zealand. He loved his career, helping people and was the consummate “caregiver”. He touched so many lives in his over 50 years of practicing psychiatry.

Dick and Barbara settled outside Augusta, GA in 2001 on Clarks Hill Reservoir. During their 64-year marriage, they raised 5 children: Rick Mann of Louisville, CO the late Kimila Sue Mann of Modoc, SC, Kurt Mann (Leslie) of Blountsville, TN, Doug Mann (Leslie) of Evans, GA, and Kara Lynn Venderley (Kevin) of Spencerville, IN. Twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren brought them great joy.

And through all the moves, they always found a church to call home. He was a true servant of the Lord!

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel at Warren Baptist Church with Dr. David McKinley officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
