Evans, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Kentwood Nursing Facility, Mr. Richard (Dick) William DesReis, 75, beloved husband of Deloris Brusher DesReis.

Dick was born in Syracuse, NY, son of John F. and Elsa P. DesReis. He was a graduate of Morristown Prep School, St. Lawrence University where he was a member of SAE Fraternity, Central Michigan University and after retiring from the Army he received his Doctorate from UGA. As a US Army officer, he entered the Army as a 2LT and was sent to Germany with the 7th Calvary. From there he went to Vietnam. In 1968, he returned to the US and was stationed at Fort Gordon where he met and married his wife of 46 years, Deloris. Dick attended DLI and was a Foreign Area Officer for Latin American counties and was fluent in Spanish. He attended Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. Stationed in Panama Canal Zone he was CID Commander for Central and South America. Dick was then sent to Buenos Aries, Argentina and attended the Argentine War College for a year and traveled throughout before returning to Washington, DC where he worked for DIA. He then returned to Buenos Aries, Argentina where he was an Army Attaché for 3 years.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his adored son: David Scott DesReis; 3 nephews: Chris, Andy, and Mike Mager; 3 great nieces and a great nephew, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Elsa DesReis; sister: Nancy Mager Cannon and niece: Kathy Mager. A special thank you for all the wonderful caregivers at the Kentwood Nursing facility.

A funeral service will be Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. David Arnoldt officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Augusta Wounded Warrior Project, 4115 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA 30907.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
