BLYTHE, GA – Entered into rest October 18, 2009 at his residence, Mr. Robert A. Wylds, Sr., 66, loving husband of Elfreda C. Wylds.
Mr. Wylds graduated from Richmond Academy. He went on to become a dispatcher whom was known as the “golden voice”. His clear, calming deep voice was a reassurance for decades for those who fought fires, and to paramedics who saved lives across the county. Mr. Wylds dedicated his life to the citizens of Richmond County for 45 years of service through the Richmond County Sheriffs Department, Richmond County Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance Service along with WBBQ car #4. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church where he was in the choir and later became a member of Fleming Christian Church. He touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grand children, friends, co-workers, and the citizens of Richmond County. His voice was one in a million and there will never be another golden voice like his.
Family members in addition to his wife include his son: Robert Wylds, Jr. (Julie) of Martinez; stepdaughter: Melissa Watts (James) of Blythe, GA; step-son: Joshua Eubanks (Nicole) of North Augusta, SC; Brother: Charles Wylds (Nova) of Augusta; grandchildren: Nicklaus Wylds, Dakota L. Watts, Johnathan D. Watts, Breanna M. Watts, Dalton Eubanks; nephew: Rev. Dwayne Wylds (Marla); nieces: Linda Marie Easler (Rick), Cheryl Reed (Steve) and a host of other family members.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Tom & Caroline Schneider officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Sid Hatfield, Todd Hatfield, Gene Johnson, Frank Ford, Billy Dixon, Randy Hayes, Wayne Roberts and Johnny Whittle.
