Mr. McCrary was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Robert Emmett McCrary, Sr. and Agnes Ware McCrary on April 5, 1935, and his family moved to Macon, Georgia soon after. Known to all as Bob, he attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and Lanier Boys High in Macon prior to attending the Georgia Institute of Technology on an ROTC scholarship. While he was at Tech, Bob met his great love, Gegie, and they married upon graduation. Following his graduation with a degree in Industrial Management, Bob began his Naval service. He completed Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and Naval Supply School in Athens, Georgia. Stationed in San Diego, California, he was a Chief Petty Officer assigned to a Naval Supply Ship which traveled to Japan. Upon his return, he was transferred to a naval base in Kingsville, Texas where he was promoted to Lieutenant.

When his Naval obligations ended, Bob joined The Trust Company Bank of Georgia, relocating his young family to Atlanta. In his capacity as a Commercial Loan Officer, he, along with a cadre of other Trust Company bankers, were transferred to Augusta, Georgia in order to grow Trust Company Bank's new acquisition. One of his bank customers, Bill Maner, owned Maner Hardware & Supply on Broad Street in downtown Augusta, and in 1969, Bob purchased the elder Mr. Maner's interest. Along with his partner, David Maner, they renamed the company Maner Builders Supply and successfully grew the business, eventually adding more products and moving it to Martinez, Georgia. Bob was President of Maner until 1998.

Bob served on the Board of Directors of SunTrust's Augusta Bank. He also served on the Board of Directors for Lumbermens Merchandising Corporation (LMC). During his career with Trust Company, he was chair of the Augusta chapter of the American Heart Association. Throughout his 60 years as a parishioner at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, Bob had many roles including usher and Eucharistic Minister. He enjoyed a post-retirement commitment to the Golden Harvest Food Bank. Bob was a member of the Sand Hills Investment Club, The Augusta Country Club and The Seabrook Island Club.

Bob and Gegie enjoyed a full life of adventurous travel throughout the world as well as relaxing at Seabrook Island. While at Seabrook, Bob could be found on his jon boat in the creeks of his beloved salt marshes, casting for whatever was biting and setting crab traps.

Bob was married for 54 years to the late Eugenia Ball McCrary who died in 2012. He is survived by his children; Laura McCrary Hurban (Robert), Robert Emmett McCrary III (Beverly), William Brock McCrary, Sara McCrary Abele (Kenneth); his eight grandchildren, Mary English Bell (Thomas), John Kasey Saunders, Jr. (Hanae), Kirsten McCrary Dance (AJ), Robert Emmett McCrary IV (Olivia), Bentley Madison McCrary, Cecilia McCrary Dutt (Madhav), Benjamin Ware Abele, and Frances Stilwell Abele; and, two great-granddaughters, Madeline Renee McCrary and Mary Lile Bell.
