Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, December 3, 2010 at his residence, Lt. Cmdr. Robert Nelson “Bob “ King, retired US Navy husband of Faye King.

Lt. Cmdr. King was a native of Augusta. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and advanced to Lt. Cmdr. He retired from the Mine Warfare Force after completing 30 years of service. He served aboard the U.S.S. Nevada during the invasions of Northern and Southern France. He also took part in the invasion of Cambodia and Okinawa and the occupation of Japan during his Vietnam tour. Lt. Cmdr. King was awarded the Bronze Star and the Presidential Citation for his performance of duty while stationed in South Vietnam. He implemented plans for maintenance, supply and support of river assault craft during the invasion of Cambodia. Lt. Cmdr. King has served as Engineering Officer of U.S.S. Nantahala and as a member of the staff of ComServPac.

Family members include his wife: Faye W. King, sons: Robert N. King, II (Marliese), Merl Hoover, Jr. (Constance), daughter: Kimberly K. Clement, brothers: Thomas and Clay King, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother Floye Alligood and son Ronald W. King.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with US Navy Honors
