Robert Brunson Cartledge, 70, died Monday, August 10, 2009 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC. He succumbed to injuries and complications sustained after being hit by an 18-wheeler on April 3, 2009. His beloved wife remained at his bedside throughout his 4 month hospitalization. His son Robby, daughter-in-law Rebecca, brother Donald, sister-in-law Shirley, pastor and his wife Donald & Evelyn Copeland, and his best friend Warren Brown were at his bedside during his final days.
He was born and raised in Parksville, SC and lived in the Augusta area for over 40 years. He graduated from McCormick High School in 1956. He graduated from Erskine College in 1960 with a BS in Business Administration.
He retired from Belk after 31 years beginning at the Daniel Village location then moving to Regency Mall for the grand opening until its closing. He worked for St. Joseph Hospital/Trinity Hospital into his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family celebrating fall days at Clemson football games and his yearly visit to the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. He was loved by many and he never met a stranger. He and his wife were 2 weeks shy of their 45th wedding anniversary.
Family members include his wife, Carolyn Cartledge; son, Robert Cartledge, Jr; brother, Donald Cartledge; niece, Kristie Reed; nephews, Donald Cartledge, Jr. and Michael Cartledge. He was a member of Parksville Baptist Church serving as deacon for many years.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Parksville Baptist Church in Parksville, SC with Dr. Don Copeland officiating. Interment will follow at Parksville Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his close friends.
