Robert Frank Boerner
Augusta, GA-Robert Frank Boerner, 84, Master Sergeant (Retired), U.S. Army, died on March 16, 2015, at Georgia Regents Hospital. He was the son of Frank and Velma Boerner and was born on May 2, 1930, in Stow, Ohio. Bob was predeceased by his parents and son, Karl C. Boerner (Abby).
Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Patricia, and daughters Francesca (Mark), Carmen and Margot; sons Alex (Laine), Edouard (Myra), Erich (Rachel), Andre’, and Gregory; grandchildren Trent, Kellie, Courtney, Benjamin, Daniel, Kaitlyn, Caleb, Noah, Casey, Clay, McKenzie, Andrew, Matthew, Catherine, Caleb, and Jake; and one brother, Charles of Stow, Ohio.
A U. S. Army Master Sergeant with over twenty years of honorable service, Bob retired from Fort Gordon on December 31, 1968. He had previously been appointed a reserve officer and upon retirement was transferred to the Officers Retired Reserve in the grade of Captain, Adjutant General Corps. Bob served his country at home and abroad in wartime and peace. His foreign service included two years in Alaska (before it was a state), five years in France, six months in Lebanon during the Beirut Crisis of 1956, and a one-year tour in Vietnam with the Military Assistance Command in 1965-66. Bob was a graduate of the Army Language School’s Russian Linguist Course in 1956 and also enjoyed studying French, German, and Spanish.
Promptly upon retirement from the Army, Bob enrolled in Augusta College to pursue a business degree. He received his BBA in Accounting in 1972. He was employed for a short time with Georgia Pacific in the Accounting Department before accepting a position with the Augusta Public Library, where he served as the Chief of Circulation Services from 1972 to 1985. During this period, Bob attended the Augusta Law School and earned a Juris Doctor Law Degree in 1981.
In 1985, Bob left the Augusta Public Library and was employed by the Law Firm of Nixon, Yow, Waller & Capers as a Legal Assistant. Bob left the firm in 1990 and became a Legal Assistant for Attorney David Bell until 1995 when he again retired. He spent his remaining years staying busy with home and yard projects, being actively involved with the Cardiac Rehab Walking Group at Eisenhower Medical Center, serving as an Adult Literacy Volunteer with Augusta State University, taking yearly vacation cruises with Patt, and being an attentive husband and wonderful father to his family.
Bob was a long-term parishioner of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. A memorial service will be Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son.
