Augusta, GA - Robert Michael Ivey “Mike” entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
Mike was born in Augusta, GA on October 2, 1950, to the late Elsie Johnson and Robert V. Ivey, Jr. He graduated high school from Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in north Georgia in 1969 and later earned a degree in Diesel Mechanics from South Georgia Technical College in Americus, GA. He joined the Army and served in Vietnam operating bulldozers, building roads, and repairing diesel engines. He later served in the National Guard. He was a heavy equipment diesel mechanic for Yancey Brothers and worked at Monsanto as a Senior Chemical Operator. Mike also ran a small blacksmith shop in Augusta for several years.
He looked forward to yearly reunions with his 84th Engineer Battalion group, enjoyed traveling out west, and riding the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. He loved the Smoky Mountains, and we are pretty sure he helped keep the Gatlinburg Pancake Pantry in business for the past 50 years. He loved his sons, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren. He just loved being around the grandkids and did all he could to attend sporting events, field trips and piano recitals. He will be greatly missed.
Family members include his sons: Jesse Ivey (Marcy) and Nicholas Ivey. Grandchildren: Vance Ivey, Rennison Ivey, Grayson Ivey, Waylon Ivey and Nolan Ivey. Sister: Beryl Ann Tanner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Natalie Ivey.
A graveside service will be held Monday, April 21, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Westover Memorial Park with Gene Hollins officiating.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 21 from 12:00 to 1:30 pm at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd, Augusta, GA 30907. (706) 364-8484.
