Robert L. Smith, Jr.
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Monday, June 20, 2011 at his residence, Mr. Robert L. Smith, Jr., 84, husband of the late Nina W. Smith.
Mr. Smith was a native of Macon, GA where he attended Sidney Lanier High School. He worked with Western Electric in Macon. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in the Navy with the 28th Seabees. After moving to Augusta in 1950 Mr. Smith began working at Ft. Gordon Signal School and retired in 1984 as Chief Course Instructor. Mr. Smith married Nina Williams in the spring of 1951. He was a member of Hill Baptist Church, past master of Richmond Lodge F & AM, and member of American Legion Post 205. Mr. Smith enjoyed golf.
Family members include his daughters: Linda S. Clark of San Antonio, TX, Nancy S. Gambill and husband Russell F. Gambill III of Augusta; grandchildren: Robert F. Clark, Emily Clark, David Clark, and Mary Elaine Gambill.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. William Berry and Dr. Kenneth Word officiating.
