Robert Druen Mahony
Augusta, Ga - Robert Druen Mahony, husband of the late Mary Horne Mahony, passed away on Sunday evening, January 7, 2018.
Bob was born in Charleston, SC on July 5, 1927. He was the son of Jack and Mary Elizabeth Mahony. He is survived by his brother, William Bahr Mahony and sister, Sarah Ford Rijswijk, both of Charleston.
Survivors also include his three daughters, Robin Leonard of Augusta, Sally (Lewis) White of Spartanburg, SC and Betsy Sheorn (Trip) of Union, SC. His grandchildren are Lauren Leonard of West Palm Beach, FL., Rob Leonard of Augusta, GA., Lewis (Lauren) White of Augusta, GA, Molly (Will) Jones of Greenville, SC., Lawson (Sean) Jenkins of Charlottesville, VA., Caroline Sheorn of Columbia, SC and Drew (Lauren) Sheorn of Kannapolis, NC. He is blessed with six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
Bob attended the University of South Carolina, and then was appointed to Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in New York, and went on to serve in the Armed Forces during World War II. After the war, he moved to Atlanta to join Sears Roebuck Company in advertising. In 1954 he and Mary moved to Augusta and were owners of the Casual Hut and Druens clothing stores for 50 years.
Bob was a member of First Baptist Church, Augusta County Club, and a former member of the Garden City Lions Club. He loved traveling back to the Charleston Coast and spending time with his family.
A memorial service will be on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church with Rev. Chip Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
