Robert W. Olson

Augusta, GA – Robert W. Olson died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 23, 2024. He was 72.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. Warren H. Olson and Julie Lazor Olson. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Katie Wright (David), Emily Thorstad (Kevin), and Andrew Olson (Emma); grandchildren, Camille Wright, Caroline, Elizabeth, and Hays Thorstad, and Robert and Olin Olson; and sisters, Diane Ammundsen (Mike) and Sherry Ferrante.

Bob was a devoted husband and Dad. He loved, among other things, being with his family, a good belly laugh, soccer, and travel.  By the time he completed his post graduate degree in Civil Engineering at Georgia Tech, he had visited 18 countries. He shared that passion with his children on numerous international trips throughout their lives. He played competitive soccer at Georgia Tech and continued to do so into his fifties. Bob had been looking forward to restoring his beloved vintage Porsche upon retirement.

In his early career, Bob worked at Law Environmental Engineering in Atlanta and Tampa. In 1995, he established his own consulting company, Natural Resource Engineering, Inc. in Augusta, Ga.  He specialized in groundwater modeling and was sought for his expertise in that area by both national corporations and government agencies. He retired in 2021.

The family would like to offer special thanks to caregivers Denise Bradley, Walker Nelson, Grant McCracken and Lance Davidson.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or CSRA Parkinson’s Support Group.
