Robert “Shorty” Martin
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, April 16, 2015, Mr. Robert R. “Shorty” Martin, 90, husband of Mrs. Marian Martin.
Mr. Martin was a native of Lincolnton, GA but lived in Augusta most of his life. He retired after 37 ½ years as Chief of Building and Grounds at Fort Gordon. After retirement he devoted his life to visiting the elderly and serving them in many ways. He was a member of Lakemont Presbyterian Church and the John Tabb Sunday School Class. Mr. Martin was a loving husband and father. He was a good Christian man with a strong spiritual influence affecting people of all ages and a true servant of God.
Family members in addition to his wife include daughters: Joan Elizabeth Gindlesperger and husband Steve; Joy Tate Young and husband Kenneth; grandchildren: Shaun Gindlesperger, Banks Tate and Holly Rhea; seven great grandchildren; brother: Stanley Martin and wife Eileen. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Melva Crook and Maytrice Lindsey.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Dave Vosseller and Rev. Jerry Gay officiating. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Shaun Gindlesperger, Banks Tate, Alex Rhea, Steve Gindlesperger, Kenneth Young, Jack Crook and Mike Lindsey. Honorary pallbearers will be Westminster Presbyterian Church Junior Boy’s Class that Mr. Martin taught.
