Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Sunday, November 17, 2024, Robert Bruce Taylor, 82, loving husband of Jane E. Taylor.
Bob was born in McAllen, TX to the late Edward and Gladys Taylor. He graduated high school in Barre, MA and served in the United States Army from 1966-1969. He served a year in Vietnam in the artillery and was proud of his military service honoring his country. Following the military, under the GI Bill he graduated from Southern Technical Institute earning a degree in Civil Engineering. On one of his first projects, he proudly worked on the Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta where he always took visitors to the top.
In 1981 the family relocated to Augusta for Bob to work at Plant Vogtle. After many years of working for various engineering firms, he retired from SRS in 2013. Bob enjoyed the outdoors and camping with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. As an active member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, he especially enjoyed the lighthearted camaraderie of the men’s weekly coffee group. Bob was kind and generous to all.
Bob and his brother Eddie were highly adventurous, keeping their parents on their toes, always wondering what was going to happen next. Helen, or as he called her “Sissie,” was often charged with corralling them, which not an easy job.
Family members, in addition to his wife, include his son: Matthew R. Taylor of Seattle, WA; daughter: Christine Hicks (Nathaniel) of Atlanta, GA; sister: Helen Bechan (Howard) of Oakham, MA; best friend Marty Beam (Soncerae): sister-in-law: Kay Welch; various nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his twin brother, Edward F. Taylor, Jr.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church with Rev. Terri Degenhardt officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church parish hall.
The family is grateful for the care provided by caregivers from Enhabit Hospice and at Piedmont Hospital and Walton Rehabilitation Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 3321 Wheeler Rd., Augusta, GA 30909.
