Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Monday, April 2, 2012, Mr. Robert Wade “Doc” Thompson, 85, devoted husband of Sara Margaret Stovall.

Mr. Thompson was a native of Lyons, GA. He was a 1951 graduate of the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy. Mr. Thompson enlisted in the Merchant Marines and later served in the US Army. He was the beloved owner of Thompson’s Pharmacy for 45 years. Mr. Thompson was known for his outreach and generosity in his community. He was a longtime and active member of The Hill Baptist Church and the Sim Folk Sunday School Class, Augusta Country Club and the GA Bulldog Club. He was also a Mason. Mr. Thompson had a great love for the game of golf and enjoyed the Masters. He also had a passion for Georgia football and was a long time booster and supporter. In his later years he found great peace and encouragement in his relationship with the Lord. Mr. Thompson enjoyed the scriptures and looked forward to his homecoming in heaven. He was a devoted father and was well loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

Family members in addition to his wife include daughters: Cynthia Thompson Smith of Martinez, GA, Judith Thompson MacDonell and husband Alex MacDonell III of Augusta, GA, Lisa Thompson Cooper and husband Christopher H. Cooper of Augusta, GA; sister: Loyce Poole of Lyons, GA; grandchildren: Karen Henson, Amy John, Alex MacDonell IV, Kathryn MacDonell and Robert T. MacDonell; great-grandchild: Margaret John.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 12 Noon. at Thomas Poteet and Son Chapel with Rev. Fred Gunter officiating. Interment will follow in
Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be sons in law: Christopher H. Cooper, Alexander Henry MacDonell III; grandsons: Alexander Henry MacDonell IV, Robert Thompson MacDonell, James Michael Henson and Martin Thomas John.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Hill Baptist Church, 2165 Kings Way, Augusta GA 30904.
