Roger Patrick Fortier
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, October 21, 2023, Mr. Roger Patrick Fortier, husband of Ellen Bowles Fortier.
Roger was born on January 20, 1948 and adopted from a Catholic orphanage in Dublin, Ireland by Mary and Russell Fortier of California. They adopted three others at the same time and brought all four toddlers home from Ireland on the same day. They also had three older adopted children from the United States and had two biological children. Roger left high school to join the Army and spent the next 20 years traveling to where the Army sent him. He spent some time in Italy and then served in Vietnam. Next, he moved to Fort Ord. Then took a short break and tried something new for a bit in the trucking business before reenlisting after less than two years. He then went to South Korea, Minnesota, Germany, and Fort Knox, KY before becoming medically retired just shy of 20 years of service. He retired in Augusta, Ga where he met and married his wife, Ellen Fortier. He spent time working in advertising sales for The Fort Gordon Signal and The True Citizen newspapers in Waynesboro, GA. After that he spent many years golfing and in car sales at many car dealerships in the CSRA. After Roger retired, he drove for a few car dealerships, picking up cars from out of town and delivering them to local dealerships. Roger was active in Alcoholics Anonymous and was sober for over 33 years. He loved traveling to out of town AA meetings and going to eat at new places. He helped many people on their journey to recover and in turn was helped by many in his recovery.
