Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, February 20, 2023, Mr. Rollie Jack Harp, 90, loving husband of 66 years to Mrs. Irell Smothers Harp.

Rollie was born in Corbin, Kentucky where he attended public schools and was Valedictorian of the class of 1950. He furthered his education attending Cumberland College (now Cumberland University) graduating in 1952 and Carson Newman College (now Carson Newman University) in 1954, majoring in mathematics at both. He graduated with his master’s degree in mathematics in 1956 from Florida State University. Rollie continued his study toward a PhD at Florida State University, University of Florida, and University of Georgia. He taught mathematics at the University of Chattanooga for 3 years and was employed by the University of Georgia as a statistician from 1965 until 1973. Rollie then moved to Augusta and worked at the Medical College of Georgia from 1973 until his retirement in 1997. He taught statistics for Nursing Students and assisted doctors and professors with analyzation of data on research projects.

Family members in addition to his wife Irell, include his children: Melinda Harp Wu (David), Keith Harp (Karan) and Alan Harp (Stephanie); grandchildren: Megan Wu Wood (Ryan), Shawn Wu, Alec Harp (Mackenzie), Rachel Harp and Benjamin Harp; great granddaughter: Addelyn Harp; sisters: Betty Harp Hammett (Leroy (dec)), Nancy Harp Jolley (Roger (dec)) and brother: Kenneth Harp (Mona) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Alex C. and Rachel McNeil Harp.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Tom Lowry officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday prior to the service from 1:00 until service time. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Alec Harp, Benjamin Harp, Shawn Wu, Ryan Wood, and Stan Brassell. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class at Curtis Baptist Church.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of MYD Services, specifically: Lawanna Nugin, Juanita Clarke, Danielle Stevens, Katina Daniels, Claudine Davis, Theresa Davis, Maureen Merritt, Aaron Hobbs, and Ron Goss.
