James Ronald Carte (Ron) (Ronnie), 87, of Martinez, GA known fondly as Pop Pop, Papa and Popal peacefully departed this life on May 21st, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
Ron is survived by his wife, Sandra Carte. Other family members include his siblings David Carte (Nancy), Brenda Kubert (Keith), Janet Painter and sister in-law: Suzanne Carte; daughters: Tamie Robinson (Ricky) and Teddi Carte (Russell); stepdaughters: Paula Watson, Angela Hardwick and Natalie Lee (Phil); numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother: John; son Thomas Carte and parents Breman and James M Carte.
Ron was a native of Charleston, West Virginia where he was a 1955 graduate of Charleston High School. As a young man he was an excellent skater and a car mechanic. Nothing made him happier than shooting hoops until dark. While in the Army he took correspondence courses from Georgia Military College. He retired from the United States Army as a Sergeant Major with 26 years of service. During that time he had postings all over the world. Ron also retired from Civil Service at Fort Gordon with 16 years of service.
His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. An avid golf enthusiast and a pillar of his community and church, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. His vibrant storytelling captivated listeners, leaving them enthralled by his tales. Throughout 35 years of marriage, Ron and his beloved wife Sandra traveled within the United States and Europe 6 times with Bavaria holding a special place in their hearts. His kind heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Ron leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, beginning at 2:00 PM at Our Savior Episcopal Church, where he was a member for over 20 years. The address is 4227 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA 30907. Feel free to wear golf or casual attire. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the church in his name.
