Ron Frain
Louisville, GA – Entered into rest June 14, 2013, Ronald M. Frain, LTC, USAR (RET), husband of Jane Frain.
Born in Skowhegan, Maine in 1939, Ron was the son of the late Melvin and Lillian Frain (McCabe). He was married to Jane Knowlton Frain, formerly of Woodbridge, CT, for almost 50 years. Raised in Maine and Connecticut, Mr. Frain held a B.A. in physics from the University of Connecticut and an MBA from Augusta State University. Mr. Frain retired from the US Army and the Civil Service after 40 years of serving our country. Included in this service were tours of duty in Taiwan (Matsu), Thailand, Germany, Panama and Vietnam. Among his commendations was a Bronze Star with an oak leaf cluster for his valor in Vietnam. Though retired, he was a very active traveler and served in the Gideons International as Georgia Memorial Bible Chairman and at Martinez Baptist Church as Chairman of the Deacons along with other leadership positions.
In his younger years, Ron enjoyed ice skating and snow skiing. Later he enjoyed traveling, computers, photography, weather tracking and following the Atlanta Braves. He had been to all 50 states and over 20 countries. He loved to listen to old-time gospel music, especially the Gaithers.
He is survived by his beloved wife Jane; children: Laurie Basil (Tom) of Longmont, CO, Richard Frain (Ruth) of Evans, GA, and Sharon Novinger (Andrew) of Lancaster, SC; grandchildren: Daniel and Joseph Basil and Luke and Ela Frain; step-grandchildren: Megan Novinger and Victoria Salow (Arturo); sister-in-law: Miriam Fraser (Ian) of Nova Scotia; uncles: Milton McCabe (Frances) of Auburn, ME and Lloyd McCabe of Monmouth, ME; aunts: Hedy, Amber and Gerri McCabe all of Maine; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law JoAn and Edward Pileski of Collinsville, CT.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Mr. Frain’s kind caregivers at UniHealth-Old Capitol in Louisville, GA.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Martinez Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Winsett officiating. Burial will be at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Troy Wilson, Vasco N’Kutula, Mike Maddox, Larry Cheek, Jimmy Harper. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gideons, Gideon Auxillary members and all deacons of Martinez Baptist Church.
