Ronald A. Gadapee, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, quietly departed this life on November 12, 2023, in Augusta, GA.
Ron was born February 13, 1940, in Washington D.C. to the late Ronald and Josephine Gadapee. He was the second of three children – brother Richard ‘Dick’ Gadapee (deceased) and sister Beverly Gadapee Brock.
Ron lived in Washington D.C. until the age of 7 when his family moved to Quincy, MA. He and his family spent summers at Harvey’s Lake in West Barnet, Vermont where he taught swimming lessons and ran record hops. In summer of 1956 he met his future wife, Peg.
He graduated in 1958 from Quincy High School and enlisted in the Army in September. He spent three years in the Army and upon being discharged in 1961 he enrolled in the University of Florida.
On August 17, 1963, he married Margaret ‘Peg’ Campbell. He graduated in April 1965 with a BA in Business – Marketing.
Upon graduating, he and Peg moved to Winston-Salem, NC where he worked for Archer Aluminum, a subsidiary of Reynolds Tobacco. In September 1967 he took a sales position in the Augusta office of Lanier Business Products.
In January 1969 he opened TELCOM Company selling telephone answering machines. A few years later he began selling and installing telephone systems in Georgia and South Carolina until his retirement.
He and his family lived in North Augusta, SC from 1967 to 1989 and in Evans, GA from 1989 to present. In North Augusta, they joined Our Lady of Peace Parish (OLP) and became active in the church and its many activities. Ron coached the OLP boys basketball team for several years and was a past member of North Augusta Country Club.
In Evans, he was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Church and a member of Jones Creek Golf Club. Ron spent several of his retirement years doing weekly ‘bread runs’ where he picked up donated food from Publix and brought it to Catholic Social Services.
Ron loved golf, family vacations at Isle of Palms and his Florida Gators.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret (Peg) Campbell Gadapee, two sons – Jeff Gadapee and Gregg (Belinda) Gadapee, a daughter – Pam (Banks) Mumford and 7 grandchildren – Mary Tabor Seiersen (Rene), Morgan Gadapee, Ashlyn Tabor, Paige Gadapee, Sarah Ann Tabor, Bryan Gadapee and Benjamin Gadapee.
The family is thankful for the love and support of Ron’s family and friends. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Father Chris Hassel as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church Columbarium.
