Ronnie “Ruff” Reddy

Augusta, GA – Ronnie “Ruff” Reddy passed away peacefully and entered his eternal home on Wednesday morning, March 15, 2023. He was confined to a nursing home since December 2022, when he had broken his hip and had never fully recovered.

Mr. Reddy, “Ruff” to most that knew him, was a lifelong Augustan and retired from the Richmond County Board of Education Transportation Department where he was a school bus driver for over 35 years. During his time-of-service accolades were presented to him on behalf of the Richmond County School Board Transportation Department and on the state level for driver competition rodeos, school bus safety and care of children.

“Ruff” had a couple passions, his love of the Lord and spreading love and laughter through his portrayal of Santa Claus. His long white hair, white beard, Santa Claus outfit, and joyful smile were precious and meaningful to hundreds of children, both young and old for over 40 years. However, first and foremost, was “Ruff’s ” first passion, service to OUR Lord. He was a graduate of the Providence Bible Institute’s 3-year program of which he graduated with a 4.0 GPA. He took pride in his learning of the Lord and how to share the gospel with others. He did it with Love and Laughter. Always joking in an easy, but serious, manner when necessary.

Ruff’s determination to serve the lord extended to all persons in all walks of life. He never met a stranger and his family views him as part of their foundation. Always there to lend a helping hand or shoulder to cry on, he helped others without them ever realizing it most of the time. Ruff was both giving and kind, never looking for any recognition as he believed that favor was due to the lord. He participated in several church mission trips abroad and attended Georgia–Lina Walk to Emmaus and served on many Walk to Emmaus Teams. He loved to cook and would be the cook at Emmaus retreats as well.

Ronnie “Ruff” Reddy is survived by his special friend and companion: Juanita Hayes; her two daughters: Debbie Hayes and Juanita “Sissy” Matthews; his sister: Reba Reese and her children: Jennifer Dansby, Johnathan Reese and Robert Reese and his niece: Robbie Lynn Sanders, daughter to his deceased sister, Robbie Gregory.

The Memorial service along with visitation for family & friends will be held at Providence Baptist Church 3850 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, GA 30906 on Saturday, March 18, at 12:00p for visitation and 1:00p for the memorial service. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park for any wanting to join the family at the cemetery for a last prayer.

The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out and already commented and contacted them to share their condolences. A special thank you to Millege Murray, who spoke so dearly of “Ruff” as well.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that any offerings be sent to Providence Baptist Church in memory of Ronnie “Ruff” Reddy.
