Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, March 25, 2014, Mrs. Rosemary Chesser Roper, 99, loving wife of the late Ralph W. Roper, Jr.
Mrs. Roper was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. She was the youngest of six children born to an Irish mother and a Scottish father. A graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Mrs. Roper was a member of St. Patrick’s Church (now Holy Trinity) for much of her life and a member of St. Mary-on-the-Hill Catholic Church for nearly all of the last fifty years. Mrs. Roper was a gentle and kindhearted woman who earned her a place in heaven rearing six children as well caring for her brother, the late Charlie Chesser. She was an avid and knowledgeable Atlanta Braves and Falcons fan.
Family members include sons Ralph W. Roper, III and his wife Wanda of Augusta, Georgia, Richard A. Roper and his wife Brenda of Montgomery, Alabama, William Michael Roper and his wife Carol of Charleston, South Carolina, John Phillip Roper and his wife Angela of Augusta, Georgia, and Joseph E. Roper and wife Anne of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition Mrs. Roper leaves eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter Rosemary Roper Gates.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Kentwood Extended Care Facility, Georgia Wing for the kind and thoughtful care given our mother.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Lou Lindsey celebrant. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday at 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, 1340 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
