Augusta, GA – Rosa “Rosita” Iris Barnett, 94, entered into rest on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. 

Rosita was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico where she attended La Milagrosa High School and the University of Puerto Rico Secretarial Science Program. She worked as a secretary at the US Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, in Ceiba, Puerto Rico and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC where she retired after 30 years with the federal government. She then worked as a secretary for the state of NC for many years and ended her amazing career at Kinston Community Center. Rosita was a parishioner of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Kinston, NC for many years. Later in life, she became a parishioner at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grovetown, GA. Her hobbies were sewing and volunteering for her parish in Kinston.

A cherished mother, Abuela (grandmother), Bisa (great grandmother), aunt and sister, Rosita was dearly loved by her family and all who met her. Her charm, beauty, sense of humor and intelligence were a gift to those who were lucky enough to have known her. Her legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and we will forever be grateful and honored to have had her as our Momma, Abuela and Bisa.

Special thanks to Desi Scott for the kindness, love, support and care shown to Rosita during the final years of her life. God blessed us when He brought Desi into our lives. Also, thanks to Emma Anders for her help throughout the years. Family members include her children: Richard Barnett of Chapel Hill, NC, Meledy Kise (Chris) of Augusta, GA and Robert John Barnett (Denise) of Greenville, NC; grandchildren: Skye Barnett (Bobby), Mars Barnett, Taylor Kise (Elaine), Megan Rhea (Nick), Keith Hunt (Katie), Brantly Wagaman (Amanda), Chelsey Barnett and Tommy Kleinknecht; great grandchildren: Aiden Kise and Lance Hunt; daughter from another mother: Patsy Stone of Kinston, NC and many much loved nephews and nieces including Millie Lopez. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Bryan “BC” Barnett; parents: Juan Bertran and Rosa Bertran Soto; brothers: Juan Bertran, Roberto Bertran and Juaquin Bertran and sister: Anna Bertran.

A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Fr. Tim McKeown as celebrant. Pallbearers will be Taylor Kise, Nicholas Rhea, Riley Flynn and Chris Bell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery in Kinston, NC on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 4921 Columbia Rd, Grovetown, Ga 30813 or to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 400 Academy Heights Rd, Kinston, NC 28504.
