Ruby Speights
Augusta, GA – Ruby Ferrell “Mae” Speights, beloved “Mama Ruby”, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.
Ruby was born in 1927 to a loving family on a Virginia farm in Dewitt, VA. She worked at Ft. Lee where she met the love of her life, Lt. Col. Duris Speights, Jr. “Daddy Dee”, who passed on April 6, 2008. Their first born was Sharon Speights who was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1951 and their youngest daughter was Dee Ann Bass who was born in Heidelberg, Germany in 1956, who preceded there passing on October 8, 2006.
She leaves this Earth loved by many. Ruby always cared for the people who needed her help and was a sympathetic listener. She was a guide to all who knew her. She was an avid golfer who loved to play with The 9 Holers at West Lake. She was also a mother who always brought her children to church who always said “take your children to church and they will always have God to lean on”.
Everyone has fond memories of Ruby and Dee. Ruby was always the grounded one and had the stability in the family and business. In business she was the visionary, artist, and loved the people throughout the business world of the first Robo Car Wash, Mr. D’s Menswear, Real Estate, Foxfire Motel, The Western Motel, Makotos Japanese Restaurant, and HI-Rollers in Clarks Hill, SC.
Ruby leaves behind daughter Sharon and her husband Audie Bovier, first born granddaughter Heather Bass, great granddaughters Hannah Quick and Kayla Ann Hutchinson, first born grandson Scott Bovier and his wife Brandie, great grandson Coy Paul Bovier, sister Florence Martin (Tom), brothers Willie Ferrell (Margaret) and Bobby Ferrell (Agnes), sister-in-law Lois Holmes (Charles), special friends Tommy Leonard, Wanda Jordan Richardson, George Ann Hadden, Gail and Jean Cooksey, Deidre Scott, and Wilma Clifford, and last but not least her beloved poodle of 10 years Jock. In addition to her husband and youngest daughter, she is preceded in death by her parents Alsie Kinton and Willie Wellons Ferrell, and sisters Lois Harrison (Lloyd), Louise Cheely (Dennis), Grace Spain (Burgess), and Sadie Yates (Tommy).
A graveside service will be Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. in Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Robert F. Hunt officiating.
