Rufus L. Belding, Jr.
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, October 11, 2015, Mr. Rufus L. Belding, Jr., 91, husband to Eusteen Timmerman Belding.
Mr. Belding was a lifelong resident of Augusta. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 17 and was wounded in the Battle of Guam; receiving a Purple Heart. He promised that he would serve the Lord for the rest of his life if the Lord let him survive. He retired as a technician from Southern Bell. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being a ham radio operator but above all else he loved his Lord. He attended Bethany Chapel.
Family members, in addition to his wife include his sons: Richard “Dick” Belding (Joann) and Rufus Belding, III; step children: Kay T. Alford (the late Larry), Linda T. Stephens (Mark), Dr. Benjamin C. Timmerman (Andrea), and Kellie T. Tice (Doug); 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with the Elders of Bethany Chapel officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park with Marine Corps honors. Pallbearers will be Chris Belding, Douglas Tice, Benjamin Tice, Clayton Timmerman, David Timmerman and Mark Alan Stephens Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Chapel, 401 Milledge Rd., Augusta, GA 30904.
