Augusta, GA – Russell Lester Foss, 57, entered into eternal rest Friday, October 6, 2023 in his hometown of Augusta, Georgia.
Russell attended high school at Richmond Academy and played on the varsity football team. He made local news when he rescued an abandoned dog from the grounds at ARC. Russell graduated from the Aviation Program at Delta State University, earning his pilot's license and working as an air traffic controller in airports across the southeast. He was on duty on September 11th, 2001 during the national emergency and worked to clear airspace of commercial and private planes on that day. Russell retired from the Federal Aviation Administration and resided in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Russell was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Foss, and father, Tony Foss. Surviving family members include his sisters, Joi Foss Vogin, Emily Foss Lamar, Aimee Kahn-Foss, and Jolie Kahn-Foss; uncle Joseph Foss; cousins Larry Thomas, Jr., Mark Williams, and Sonya Foss Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Park Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia.
