Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, November 24, 2016. Ruth Wilder, 91, was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lonnie T. Wilder. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with the Rev. Carolyn Moore and Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
Ruth was born in Hugo, Oklahoma in 1925 and was the only child of Captain Conrad and Eva Anderson. She moved with her family in 1935 to the Philippines and remained there until 1939. Her family later moved to Augusta in 1943 and made it their home. Ruth was a graduate of Tubman High School and a longtime member of The Hill Baptist Church. She was a children’s Sunday School teacher for many years and also served as a Pink Lady Volunteer for St. Joseph’s Hospital. Ruth enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing with her husband at Clark’s Hill Lake.
Family members include her children: Pat Harper (Jay) of Augusta, Nancy Vasquez (Jaime) of Brentwood, TN, and Gary Wilder (Laurie) of LaGrange, GA; grandchildren: Tricia Schmidt (Steve), Milledge Peterson (Joanne), Andy Vasquez, Mary Catherine Wilder, Thomas Wilder, Elena Vasquez, Ashley Wilder, and Charlie Wilder; great grandchildren: Caroline Schmidt, Julia Schmidt, Sam Peterson, Sarah Schmidt, and Kate Peterson.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her sons-in-law Milledge Peterson, Jr. and Sam Bradley.
The family would like to thank the staff at Southeast Hospice for their compassionate care, especially Kara, Deena, and Amy. Our deepest gratitude also goes to Ruth’s personal caregivers: Shirley Cody, Erica Lyons, Jannie Scott, Norvell Cody, and Rosalind Latson.
