Ruth A. Muns

North Augusta, SC – With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our beloved Ruth Aldred Muns, who entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at age 85. She was the cherished wife of the late Richard Lee Muns, Sr., leaving a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness.

Her family, a testament to the beautiful life she nurtured, includes her daughter, Cindy M. Henry; sons R. Lee Muns Jr. and the late James E. “Bud” Muns; beloved sister Mary A. “Peg” Sunday; and her pride and joy, seven grandchildren along with ten great-grandchildren, each carrying a piece of her heart.

Ruth's journey began in the quaint town of Milledgeville, GA, but her spirit thrived in Augusta, where she blossomed under the love and guidance of her parents — her father, a dedicated salesman for Castleberry’s, and her mother, a compassionate worker for the Richmond County Department of Family and Children Services. Ruth's pursuit of education led her to Augusta College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education, equipping her to inspire countless young minds.

As a devoted member of Abilene Baptist Church, Ruth's faith intertwined beautifully with her role as an art teacher for the Richmond County Board of Education. A proud member of the Richmond County Retired Teachers Association, the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, and the Augusta Council for the Blind, she championed the cause of education and empowerment throughout her life.

In 1995, after undergoing elective back surgery while teaching at Spirit Creek Middle School, Ruth faced the unimaginable—she emerged from surgery totally blind. But this setback could not extinguish her fiery passion for the arts. Instead, Ruth channeled her creativity into teaching pottery classes at Abilene Baptist, where she discovered her true ministry. She began crafting small pottery crosses, each piece imbued with love and purpose, which she would graciously gift to those who crossed her path. With gentle hands and a heart full of belief, she would take someone's hand and place a cross in it, saying, “I am a potter, and I give these to special people. You are special. Let this cross remind you that Jesus died for you to save you from your sins.”

Her life was a tapestry of compassion, artistry, and unwavering faith, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Chad Muns, Jamie Muns, David Henry, Corky Henry, Caleb Herlocker, and Tom Griffith will honor her memory as Pall Bearers.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will take place on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son, with the gracious Rev. Bill Harrell officiating. The family will open their hearts to friends starting at 11:00 AM until the service begins.

In lieu of flowers, mourners are invited to make memorial contributions to the Augusta Chapter of the Georgia Council for the Blind: Post Office Box 381, Trion, Georgia 30753.
