Mrs. Sally M. Gwaltney
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Friday, October 29, 2010 at University Hospital,
Mrs. Sally M. Gwaltney, 86, beloved wife of Joe E. Gwaltney for 62 years.
Mrs. Gwaltney was born in Thompson, PA being one of 18 children of Jesse and
Blanche McClain. She served in the U.S. Navy during WWII with the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington, DC. After her discharge she joined Civil Service at Ft. Bragg, NC where she met her husband. Mrs. Gwaltney ended her service at Ft. Gordon where she was a Battalion Commander’s secretary for 24 years.
Family members in addition to her husband include sons: William B. Gwaltney (Jender) of Cumming, GA, Lee Gwaltney (Linda) of Lakeland, FL, Shawn Gwaltney (Robin) of Martinez, GA; daughter: Ashley G. Mazza (Tony) of Marietta, GA; six grandchildren: William D., Matthew, Miranda, Erin, Nicholas, Kaitlyn; two great-grandchildren: Lillian, Callie Ann; sisters: Jane Beale, Jackie Johnson, Donna Terrace; and brothers: James McClain and Ralph McClain.
A funeral service with military honors will be held Monday, November 1, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Chaplain Major Donald Stover officiating.
