Augusta, GA – Mr. Samuel Preston “S.P.” Harley, 94, of Augusta, GA, entered into rest on Sunday, January 27, 2013.

Mr. Harley, a native of Evans, GA, had lived for many years in Dunbarton, SC, where he also finished school. He was a World War II veteran with the United States Army. He retired as district manager for Southland Life Insurance Company. He was a past president of Life Underwriters in St. Petersburg, FL; past president of the Augusta Life Underwriters Association; past president of General Agents and Managers Association of Augusta; and a life member of Hopewell Masonic Lodge 127, Jackson, SC. Mr. Harley was a former member of Dunbarton Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school superintendent and deacon. He was a Dunbarton School Trustee. He was also a member of The Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Youngblood Bible Class.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Dicks Harley, and his parents, Clinton Preston Harley and Ada Harley Brown.

Survivors include two sons, Clinton Thompson Harley and wife Anne of Augusta, and Samuel Preston Harley, Jr., of San Francisco, CA; one daughter, Beverly H. McRae and husband Ken of Tyler, TX; three granddaughters, Lauren S. Harley and Shannon S. Harley, both of Atlanta, and Mindy McRae of Dallas, TX.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Fred Gunter officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Hill Baptist Church, 2165 Kings Way, Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
