Sanford Elwood Parnell passed away Tuesday November 14, 2024 at the age of 101. Sanford was born on March 1, 1923, in Robinson County, NC.

He was preceded to heaven by his wife of 70 years Rosalie Kinlaw. Sanford is survived by daughters Saundra Holevas and Adelia Walton and son in law George Walton. Additionally, he was blessed with four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Sanford served in the US Army in the Pacific during World War II. Engaged in combat in New Guinea, Philippine Islands, Leyte, and Luzon including the battle for Manilla. His military awards include: The Asiatic Pacific Medal with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze service stars, WW II Victory Medal, WW II Us Arm y Medal, American Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service Award,

Sanford was a former member of Fleming Baptist Church for over 50 years and passed as a member of Abilene Babtist Church.

Visitation will be Friday November 22, 2024 from 10:00 – 10:45 AM at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, graveside services to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 11:00 A.M. 

Sanford has asked that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
