Martinez Ga – Entered into rest April 10, 2014, Mrs. Sara Harrison Coats, 86, wife of Mr. Ernest D. Coats, Sr.
Mrs. Coats was a native of Montgomery, Alabama, where she met her husband and married in 1951.
Mrs. Coats became a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta with her family after moving to Augusta in 1963. She retired from the Richmond County Board of Education. She was an active volunteer in the Benevolence Ministry at her church.
Family members in addition to her husband include three sons: Ernest D. Coats, Jr. (the late Susan), James H. Coats (Sherry), Michael J. Coats (Deanna); grandchildren: Jennifer C. Ackerman, Daniel M. Coats, Catherine M. Coats, and Amy M. Underwood; and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Coats was preceded in death by her parents: Oliver B. Harrison and Julia C. Harrison.
A memorial service will be Friday, April 18, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. in the Storey Chapel at the First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Greg DeLoach and Rev. Andy Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Garden.
The family will receive friends after the Memorial Service in the Storey Chapel Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to the Benevolence Ministry of First Baptist Church of Augusta at PO Box 14489, Augusta, GA 30919.
