Serman K. Sawyer

Martinez, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, November 20, 2023, Mr. Serman King Sawyer, 61, loving husband of Mrs. Tammy Golden Sawyer.

Serman was born in Norfolk, Virginia but was a longtime resident of Augusta. He was a 1981 graduate of Augusta Christian Schools. Serman was a Senior Chemical Operator at DSM for over 20 years. He was a WWII history buff and enjoyed putting together model tanks and was a member of IMPS model club. Serman also liked playing golf, was a member of and played guitar for J.C. and the Stents, was a Virginia Tech fan, loved his cats and as a pirate buff he attended Piratefest in Tybee Island, GA regularly. Most of all Serman was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and son.

Family members in addition to his wife include his mother: Cornelia M. Sawyer; daughters: Katherine Elizabeth Howard (Joseph), Rebecca Lynn White (Derrick), Kimberly Sawyer Jennings (Brooks) and Robin Marie Sawyer; bonus daughters: Lelia, Stephanie, Steffy and Beth; stepsons: Michael Newsome and Cody Newsome; 20 grandchildren; sister: Teri Akin (Robert); nephew: Jeremy Akin (Amanda) and Marshal Akin (Carolyn) and niece: Angie Sawyer Rehnelt (Brandon). He was preceded in death by his father Frederick Bell Sawyer and brother Michael Frederick Sawyer.

The funeral service will be Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Father Mark Van Alstine officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Barry Morrison, Clint Berry, David Dorn, Mark Young and Carson Sawyer.
