Sharon Young

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, December 9, 2024, Mrs. Sharon Lee Fillingham Young, 68, loving wife of 44 years to the late Jerrold Alan Young. 

Sharon was a native of upstate New York but has lived in Augusta for 46 years. She worked as a registered nurse in Psychiatry at University Hospital and then later at the VA medical center from which she retired. Sharon enjoyed expressing her creativity through drawing and crocheting. She won ribbons for many of her crocheted projects. She was also an avid gardener, loved all forms of music, and enjoyed karaoke with friends and family. As a lover of animals Sharon rescued many beloved cats and dogs throughout her life. 

Family members include her three children: Audrey Chapman Hennis (Ed), Jeremy Chapman, and Cecelia Young Wilkerson; grandchildren: Eric, Bianca, Lewis, Daniel, Michael, Jaime, Lillian, and Andrew; brother: Steve Fillingham; and several nieces and nephews. 

 A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Sharon successfully battled breast cancer earlier this summer but was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September. In her memory, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org/.
