Sheila C. Hirshoren

Grovetown, GA – Sheila’s battle with metastatic bladder cancer ended at her home in Grovetown Georgia on 17 January 2013. Sheila was born in Lawrenceville, Illinois to the late Anson and Frances Courter. Her formative years were spent in Washington DC, a city she dearly loved. It was during her time in DC, Sheila’s love of the arts and literature were cultivated. Sheila graduated from Ancostia High School. She returned home to her native Illinois to attend the University of Illinois where she earned a Bachelors Degree. Sheila resumed her education many years later and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia. Sheila was married to the late Dr. Al Hirshoren for 51 years.

Sheila has several different jobs throughout her life. However, she found her true calling as a Children’s Librarian at the Levittown Library in Levittown New York. Sheila relished the opportunity to introduce young minds to the world of literature and prose. Sheila was known to match her work attire to the story she was to read the children during story hour. Sheila and Al retired to Charlottesville, VA. When Al’s health began to fail, they moved to Evans Georgia to be closer to family.

Throughout her life Sheila always looked for opportunities to immerse herself and her family in the arts. Sheila was especially fond of live theater, ballet and the opera.

Sheila is survived by her son Greg, and his wife Dr. Christine Egger of Knoxville Tennessee, her daughter Amy and her husband, Troy and two plucky grandchildren, who share her love of reading, Ryan and Erin Green of Grovetown Georgia.
