Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, February 19, 2015, Mrs. Shirley Banks Newman, 82, wife to the late Sam Newman.

Mrs. Newman was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. She was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, Adult Couples and Singles Sunday School Class, Sanctuary Choir, and Torch Bearers Club at Truett-McConnell. She graduated from both Truett-McConnell College and Tift College. She retired as a school teacher and real estate agent.

Family members include her children: Ben Newman and wife Michelle, Mintie Dudley and husband John: stepchildren: Gus Newman, Ray Newman and wife Christina, Judy Malin and husband Tim; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and sister: Joyce Perkins and husband George. In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Anderson.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Tammy Darden, Mrs. Newman’s caregiver for the last 10 years.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Adult Couples and Singles Sunday School Class, and the Sanctuary Choir.

The family will receive friends Monday in the gathering room at the church beginning at 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
